As a reminder, all students need to maintain a 90% minimum attendance rate throughout the course. This means that you should plan your holidays carefully.

Entry Requirements
To apply for level 3, you need to have completed a counselling skills training course, such as the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or an equivalent course with at least 90 guided learning hours. You will need to provide evidence of this at the interview stage. Otherwise, your application will not be accepted. If you are coming from a different Centre or awarding body, you will also need to submit some of your Level 2 work and a 15-minute skills practice recording.
- This course requires a significant amount of writing, so you need to have a Level 2 (GCSE A-C) in Literacy (or equivalent). Otherwise, you will have to do a written exercise to demonstrate your skills.
- You also need to be willing to share your thoughts and feelings with others, either in a group setting, individually with other students or tutors, or in written form.
- You need to be open to giving and receiving feedback from others in the group, as this is an essential part of the learning process.
- You need to be committed to exploring your own values, beliefs, and attitudes, and examining how you relate to other people.
- You need to be dedicated to the learning process and completing the necessary homework to meet the requirements of the course.
- If you have any current emotional or psychological problems, then you are not eligible for this course.
- If you are going through any significant life events, then you may not be suitable for this course.
- You need to have basic computer skills (word processing and sending emails) and access to a printer to print your work for the portfolio.
Course Content
This course is designed to help you learn through experience and observation, and to foster your personal growth and self-awareness. You will be expected to participate in various activities and exercises that will challenge you to reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, values, beliefs, and goals. You will also have the opportunity to observe and interact with others who may have different perspectives and backgrounds from you. By engaging in this course, you will develop a deeper understanding of yourself and others and enhance your professional skills and competencies.
The course session will be made up of: -
- Personal Development: These sessions help you explore your own personal history and relationships and increase your self-awareness. You will learn how to reflect on your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours, and how they affect your well-being.
- Theory: These sessions cover various topics related to counselling skills, such as active listening, empathy, and feedback. You will also learn about the person-centred approach, which is based on the idea that each person has the potential to grow and change in a positive way. You will also get an overview of other counselling theories on the Level 3 course.
- Skills Practice: These sessions give you the opportunity to practice your counselling skills with your peers in small groups. You will receive constructive feedback from your group members and facilitators. You will also have a skills practice assessment with an external assessor, who will evaluate your competence and readiness for the next level.
- Group supervision: These sessions are led by a qualified clinical supervisor, who will support you in your learning and development as a counsellor. You will be able to discuss any issues or challenges that arise from your skills practice or personal development sessions and receive guidance and advice from the supervisor and your peers.
Assessment
You will complete a portfolio of your work that will be evaluated by your tutor. You will also take a skills test that will be graded by an external assessor.
- Weekly reflective journals: Write about your learning process, challenges, and achievements.
- Worksheets: Complete the exercises to practice and reinforce your skills.
- Assignments: Submit your work by the deadlines and follow the guidelines.
- Tutor and peer skills feedback: Receive constructive feedback from your tutor and peers on your skills development.
- 1-2-1 tutorials: Meet with your tutor individually to discuss your progress and goals.
- Skills assessment: Demonstrate your skills in a simulated or real work environment.
- External assessment: Take an exam or a project to validate your skills by an external body.
